The Go-Go Ninjas have one goal -to destroy the Peace Balls. They believe that Helen knows how. Can Helen use her knowledge of the past to help them save the future? An electrifying graphic novel by award-winning authors.
If you’ve ever wondered what a post apocalyptic Auckland would look like, New Zealander authors Ant Sang and Michael Bennett create a detailed future of the city destroyed by global warming in their thrilling graphic novel. Climate change activist Helen is kidnapped by a group of female, time-travelling ninjas and taken to the year 2355. There she discovers a desolate Auckland; overgrown with bush, dangerous gangs and containing giant ‘peace balls’ that enslave and control people’s minds. Helen’s sole purpose is to save the future, yet does she have the knowledge to destroy the peace balls? This fast paced, action story is great for older readers, with its quick-fire dialogue, fiery heroines and the engaging element of ‘science gone wrong’; all set in New Zealand. The illustrations are bold, capturing the danger and desolation of the ruined world. The story itself also begins quickly and does not slow down. It’s a little bit violent, so definitely for 14+, but teenagers after an engaging science fiction read, with a strong female heroine (whoop whoop), should enjoy. - Ruby
