Lucy Bailey's Review:

One wonderful day Jim Panzee woke to discover nothing was right...

Norman thinks Jim is grumpy; in fact everyone but Jim thinks Jim is grumpy. And the more advice they offer him on how not to be grumpy (smile!, sing!, laugh! take a bath!, jump up and down!), the grumpier he gets. Until he just can't take it any more.

Some days you just need to feel how you feel. Some days are wonderful days to be grumpy.

So much tension in such a short book! Argh, stop telling him how to act happy, he's going to explode! That smile is terrifying. And yet, also hilarious. A fantastic book for anyone who has ever been a grumpy monkey and a really great book for talking about emotions with kids.

Description

Jim the chimpanzee is in a terrible mood for no good reason. His friends cant understand ithow can he be in a bad mood when its SUCH a beautiful day? They encourage him not to hunch, to smile, and to do things that make THEM happy. But Jim cant take all the advice... and has a bit of a meltdown. Could it be that he just needs a day to feel grumpy? Suzanne and Max Langs hilarious approach to this very important lesson is an excellent case study in the dangers of putting on a happy face and demonstrates to kids that they are allowed to feel their feelings (though they should be careful of hurting others in the process!).
