They will do anything to take the pencil from Bob. Will they succeed? Join Bob and his friends in this amazing adventure as they embark on an unexpected journey to save the world!

Budding author Ben Spies, 11, loves writing so much that his family has helped him to publish his novel, The Magic Pencil, a time-travel story about a boy who finds a magic pencil on his way to school. The main character Bob, also 11, finds his life changes dramatically as he has to keep the magic pencil from the clutches of the villainous Fakeys who want to take over the world. Ben, who was 10 when he wrote the book, says his favourite part is when Bob travels back in time to ancient Egypt and "meets a rather nasty Pharaoh".

The 160-page humorous adventure aimed at ages 8-12 is a family venture. Ben's mother Renata organised the publication and his father Robert drew the illustrations; renowned book designer Vida Kelly helped with the design. Ben has visited several schools on the K
apiti Coast to share his stories and aspirations, and hopes to encourage other young authors to write their own stories too.

About the Author: Ben wrote his first book, Weirdo, when he was nine years old. The Magic Pencil followed soon after at age ten. The true point of difference in Ben's books is that they are written by a child, for children. Through a child's eyes and with a child's voice.
