But that didn't stop Jacinda. She became the Prime Minister of New Zealand, and the world's youngest female leader. This is the true story of a trailblazer who has inspired people around the planet, told by award-winning author and illustrator.

Bella & Lucy Bailey's Review:

Some people complained that she was too "girly" or should be starting a family, but Jacinda just ignored them, and got on with her work.

The latest book in David Hill's Kiwi Legends series, Taking the Lead, tells the story of Jacinda Ardern, the youngest Prime Minister in 160 years. They will definitely need to add a few pages after this latest crisis Jacinda is taking the lead on!

Accompanied by rich illustrations from Phoebe Morris, the story documents the narrative of her life before, and after, rising to power. From her childhood days of driving tractors and dreams of becoming a clown, Taking the Lead also pinpoints the milestones which shaped Ardern into the person she is today, such as working in a soup kitchen in New York, dealing with media criticism when first elected, and her response to the Christchurch shootings in March 2019.

Taking the Lead is the perfect book for showing children that they're never too young to make a difference. Jacinda "doesn't believe she is more special than any other working parent...But she hopes the things she's done might help everyone, especially girls, to believe they can also do things and go places."

An inspiring read for age 4+
