Description

Space and Wellington...with a little bit of Greek Mythology thrown in.

Zeustian Logic is set in the familiar land of Kelburn and presents a warped picture of suburban kiwi routine. Rituals we're all familiar with - like the mad, barefooted run down the road to the dairy for bread for school lunches, five minutes before closing time. However, instead of his mum rushing down at five minutes to nine, it's 13 year old Tuttle who has to look after his mother and seven year old brother Fen, after their famous mountain guide father became lost in the mysterious Dead Zone on Mount Everest a year ago.

Tuttle relies on the infinite universe - the Carter Observatory and gazing through his telescope at Sirius the Dog Star and Orion's Belt - as an escape from his reality. And under the name Zeustian Logic, he and his friend Patrick, aka Mystic Parker, come up with silly anagrams for themselves like karmic pasty and yacks armpit.

But even still, Tuttle can't help thinking that the disappearance of his dad may be just that. A disappearance.

For fans of See You In The Cosmos, or for any Wellingtonian ever, to recognise the details of Wellington life from the perspective of a thirteen year old boy. Beautifully written and good for ages 11 and up.

Description

The aftermath of a mountain-climbing accident, a petrolhead neighbour, a troubled little brother, what boy wouldn't prefer the company of the Greek gods, astronomists and his best friend, Attila the Pun?

After Tuttle's father dies on Mount Everest, his mother is distant and muffled by her grief. Tuttle tries to discover the true story about what happened on the mountain while he cares for his younger brother, tackles a tough English assignment at school (and computer games at home) with his friend Attila, and battles the car-obssessed Boyd and Derek next door.
